Introduction

In line with the spirit of National Conference on Scientific and Technological Innovation, following the proposal of General Secretary Hu, who accentuated that science popularization is as important as scientific and technological innovation itself, and the aim to increase the percentage of Chinese citizens who has basic scientific knowledge to more than 5% by 2015, with the hope that teenagers would develop a scientific mindset, love and learn science, and apply scientific knowledge for good, Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology Museums in China would raise funds for the public welfare programs named Science Museums in Rural Secondary Schools, with the following targets:

To permeate a scientific mindset among teenagers in rural areas;

To distribute educational resources equally;

To industrialize exhibits in science museums.

Making good use of the current situation in rural secondary schools and taking account of the hobbies and interests in science and technology of junior high school students. The main contents are:

1. Science Popularization Exhibits. It consists of 15-20 pieces of creative and interactive items in mathematics, acoustics, mechanics, optics, electromagnetism, etc. The basic scientific principles are mainly demonstrated and simulated by interactive mode so that students learn through practice.

2. Digital Science and Technology Museum. It was majorly established based on the technology of computers, showing and applying the contents from China Digital Science and technology Museum by PC or the Internet. It is a program from State Ministry of Science and Technology, which is a national service platform for public welfare scientific popularization, constructed together by China Association for Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and Chinese Academy of Sciences and managed and run by China Science and Technology Museum. A variety of scientific exhibition halls and resources are demonstrated digitally. Such a reformation breaks through the limitation of time and space, entertaining visitors, including students, while teaching.

3. Science Popularization Books. There are approximately 1000 books with various up-to-date contents, in science, geography, history, biography of scientists, encyclopedias, motivating stories, and etc.

4. Creative works of science and technology (flip charts or panels). It consists of several creative flip charts and panels, which are derived from creative pieces from China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest at the initial stage, and in later periods. Adolescents will be encouraged to broaden their way of thinking, demonstrating their own excellent creative works, which will be made into flip charts or panels and exhibit together. Students, therefore, will learn through operation.

5. Multimedia Projector Devices. They are put into integrated utilizations, widely used in both science popularization videos and centralized teaching of science classes.

6. Satellite Receiving Devices adapting to local needs.
