  马可波罗走过了这么多路,经过了这么多驿站,那在这些驿站里,他都能吃到哪些好吃的呢?请您在这个小饭馆里坐一坐,品尝一下丝路上的美食。

  Marco Polo walked along many roads and passed by many posts in his travels, so what delicious dishes did he get at these oases along the network? Please sit down in this small restaurant and taste the delicacies from the ancient Silk Road.

  您别看咱们这个店不大,吃的东西可还真不少呢。常见的有伊朗的石榴汤、红花冰糖、腌制的烤肉;印度的炖菜;新疆和中亚的抓饭等等。

  Though the restaurant is small, it has much to offer. Common dishes include Iranian Pomegranate Soup, Saffron Rock Sugar, Marinated Roast, Indian Stew, and Pilaf from Xinjiang and Central Asia.

  通过丝绸之路,一些食材也传入了中国,比如原产于地中海沿岸的大蒜、香菜、蚕豆、豌豆都是汉朝的时候传进来的,扁豆、茄子则是从印度,东南亚传进来的。此外,还有很多“胡”字辈儿食材,比如胡椒、胡豆、胡荽、胡蒜、胡萝卜、胡瓜、胡麻等,也传入了中国,极大丰富了中国人的饭桌。

  Foreign vegetables were also introduced to China through the Silk Road. For example, garlic, coriander, broad beans, and peas were introduced from the Mediterranean coast during the Han Dynasty, and lentil and eggplant from India and Southeast Asia. The vegetables introduced via the Silk Road land routes include peppers, broad beans, coriander, garlic, carrots, cucumber, and flax, which have greatly enriched the Chinese dinner table.

  除了胡字辈儿蔬菜,我们现在还有番字辈儿蔬菜和洋字辈儿食材,比如番石榴、番茄、番薯、洋葱、洋芋、洋白菜等等。番字辈儿蔬菜是宋朝到明朝之间,通过海上丝绸之路传进来的,洋字辈儿则是近代流传到中国的,所以这两类食材在陆上丝绸之路的驿站里,都是见不着的。

  In addition to the aforementioned vegetables, guava, tomato, and sweet potato were taken to China via the Maritime Silk Road from the Song Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty and onion, potato, and cabbage entered China in modern times, so you won’t see any of them here.

  在中国,马可波罗还去到了四川云南等地区,见识到了所谓的“茶马古道”。

  During his stay in China, Marco Polo also traveled to regions like Yunnan and Sichuan, and visited the so-called Ancient Tea Horse Road.
